Commercial Landscaping Services

BACK TO OUR SERVICES

From improving an existing outdoor space to creating something completely new, we provide professional hard and soft landscaping services tailored around each site and how it will be used.

Our experienced team works across schools, commercial sites, public spaces and larger properties, delivering everything from planting, turfing and landscape improvements to paving, fencing and more involved projects such as Forest School developments.

We're always happy to offer practical ideas and recommendations, helping you create an outdoor space that is attractive, functional and built around what you want to achieve.

Take a look through our landscaping services and some of the projects we've completed below.

Welcome to Skippers Ground Maintenance
Artificial Grass Installation

We provide professional artificial grass and synthetic turf installation for schools, commercial sites, play areas and other outdoor spaces where a durable, low-maintenance surface is required.

A good artificial lawn depends just as much on what's underneath it as the grass itself. Our team can manage the preparation and installation from start to finish, including:

  • Removal of existing turf and vegetation
  • Excavation and ground preparation
  • Installation and compaction of suitable sub-base materials
  • Drainage preparation where required
  • Edging and perimeter preparation
  • Weed membrane installation
  • Cutting, joining and securing artificial turf
  • Sand dressing and final finishing

Artificial grass can provide a practical solution for high-use or difficult-to-maintain areas, offering a tidy and usable surface throughout the year without the mowing and establishment requirements of natural turf.

Whether you're looking to improve a school area, commercial space, play area or landscaped setting, we'll be happy to assess the site and discuss whether artificial grass is the right solution.

Welcome to Skippers Ground Maintenance
Commercial & Timber Fencing

We supply and install a wide range of school, commercial and timber fencing, from simple boundary replacements through to larger fencing projects, gates and secure enclosures.

Fencing is particularly important within schools and educational sites, where different areas may require secure boundaries while still providing a practical and well-presented environment for pupils and staff.

Our fencing options include:

  • School and playground fencing
  • Timber and wooden panel fencing
  • Closeboard fencing
  • V-mesh security fencing
  • Chain-link fencing
  • Post and rail fencing
  • Chestnut fencing
  • Livestock and stock fencing
  • Metal fencing
  • Gates and access points
  • Boundary fencing and replacements

School & Playground Fencing

We can install and replace fencing around school boundaries, playgrounds, sports areas, playing fields and other outdoor spaces, with the type and specification selected to suit the location and intended use.

Our experience working regularly within schools means we're familiar with the importance of safe working, tidy sites and minimising disruption while works are being carried out.

Timber & Wooden Fencing

For sites where a more traditional appearance is preferred, we install a range of timber fencing, including closeboard, panel, post and rail and other wooden boundary systems.

Whether you're replacing an existing fence, creating a new boundary or improving the security and appearance of an outdoor area, we can help recommend a practical fencing solution suited to the site.

Welcome to Skippers Ground Maintenance
Paving, Pathways & Car Parks

We undertake a range of commercial paving and hard landscaping projects, from pathways and smaller paved areas through to larger school and commercial schemes.

Our team can manage the preparation and construction of new hard surfaces as well as the replacement or improvement of existing areas, with materials and construction methods selected to suit how the finished space will be used.

Our services can include:

  • Block paving
  • Paved pathways and walkways
  • School paths and pedestrian areas
  • Patios and seating areas
  • Tarmac pathways
  • School and commercial car parks
  • Kerbs and edging
  • Hard-standing areas
  • Repairs and reinstatement
  • Ground preparation and drainage
  • Larger hard landscaping projects

School Pathways & Car Parks

We have experience delivering larger-scale surfacing projects within schools, including block-paved and tarmac car parks, pathways and surrounding external areas.

For larger or more specialist surfacing works, we can coordinate the project alongside our trusted specialist contractors, allowing us to provide clients with a complete solution while maintaining a single point of contact throughout the works.

From Groundworks to the Finished Landscape

Hard landscaping rarely exists in isolation. Once the paving, pathway or car park is complete, our wider landscaping and grounds teams can take care of fencing, turfing, planting, seeding and surrounding landscape reinstatement.

This allows us to look at the whole outdoor area rather than simply laying the hard surface.

Whether you're planning a new pathway, paved area, school car park or larger external improvement project, get in touch and we'll be happy to discuss what's possible.

Natural Turfing & Lawn Installation

For areas where an instant grass finish is required, we provide professional natural turfing for schools, commercial sites, estates, landscaped areas and larger properties.

Good turf establishment starts with proper preparation. We can manage the complete process from removing the existing surface and preparing the ground through to laying and establishing the new turf.

Our turfing services can include:

  • Existing lawn and vegetation removal
  • Ground preparation and cultivation
  • Importing and grading topsoil where required
  • Levelling and final preparation
  • Supply and laying of quality natural turf
  • Rolling and finishing
  • Initial watering and establishment
  • First cuts and ongoing lawn maintenance
  • Reinstatement following construction or landscaping works

Preparation Makes the Difference

Simply laying new turf over poorly prepared ground rarely produces the best long-term result.

Our wider ground preparation capability allows us to address uneven, compacted or tired ground before the turf is laid, helping create a better foundation for rooting and establishment.

We can also improve levels and tie the new turf neatly into paths, paving, kerbs and surrounding landscaped areas.

Turfing or Seeding?

Not every site needs turf.

Where an immediate finished appearance is important, natural turf provides a quick transformation. For larger areas where establishment time is available, specialist grass seeding may provide a more practical and cost-effective solution.

Because we offer both, we can recommend the approach that best suits the size, intended use and requirements of the site.

Whether you're replacing a tired lawn, reinstating an area following other works or creating a completely new grassed space, we'll be happy to take a look and recommend the best approach.

Soft Landscaping & Planting

We provide professional soft landscaping and planting services to create, improve and refresh outdoor spaces across schools, commercial sites, public spaces, estates and larger properties.

Whether it's introducing a few new planted areas or transforming a tired landscape, we can help with the preparation, planting and establishment needed to create an attractive and practical finished space.

Our soft landscaping services can include:

  • Tree planting
  • Shrub and hedge planting
  • Planting beds and borders
  • Seasonal and perennial planting
  • New landscape planting schemes
  • Replacement and infill planting
  • Soil preparation and improvement
  • Mulching and decorative finishes
  • Bed edging and reshaping
  • Turfing and grass establishment
  • Rejuvenation of existing landscaped areas

New Planting & Landscape Improvements

Existing landscapes can become overgrown, tired or simply no longer suitable for how a site is being used.

We can clear and reshape existing areas, improve the soil where required and introduce new trees, shrubs, hedging and planting to give the space a fresh purpose and appearance.

For new developments or larger improvement projects, we can also work from an existing landscape plan or planting specification, carrying out the practical preparation and installation on site.

Tree, Shrub & Hedge Planting

From individual specimen trees to larger hedge and shrub planting schemes, we can select and establish planting appropriate to the location and intended purpose.

Planting can be used to create attractive boundaries, improve screening, enhance entrances and communal areas or introduce greater variety and interest to an existing landscape.

Looking After What We Plant

Good landscaping doesn't end on the day the plants go into the ground.

Where required, our grounds maintenance teams can provide watering, pruning, feeding, weed control, replacement planting and ongoing maintenance to help new landscapes establish and mature successfully.

Whether you're starting with a blank area or looking to breathe new life into an existing landscape, we'll be happy to visit the site, discuss your ideas and recommend a practical way forward.

Eco-Bays – Compost, Green Waste & Spoil Bays

For sites that regularly generate soil, green waste and other organic material, our purpose-built Eco-Bays provide a strong, tidy and practical way of keeping materials separated and contained.

We've installed these systems for cemeteries and education sites, where managing ongoing volumes of soil and green waste efficiently is an important part of day-to-day site operations.

Our standard Eco-Bay design uses heavy-duty steel RSJs with substantial oak sleepers to create three open-fronted storage bays. The robust construction makes them suitable for sites where materials may need to be deposited and removed using machinery.

Eco-Bays can be used for:

  • Cemetery soil and spoil
  • Composting materials
  • Green waste and vegetation
  • Wood chip
  • Leaves and organic material
  • Topsoil and other reusable materials
  • Separation of different waste streams

Built Around Your Site

Although we commonly construct Eco-Bays as a three-bay system, the layout and size can be adapted to suit the available space and how the site intends to use it.

The open-fronted design provides straightforward access for loading and removal, while the RSJ and oak sleeper construction creates a durable, professional-looking facility suitable for long-term use.

Particularly Suited to Cemeteries & Larger Grounds

For cemeteries in particular, having dedicated bays provides a practical location for grave spoil, soil and green waste, helping keep operational areas organised while allowing suitable materials to be separated for reuse, composting or later removal.

The same principle can work well for colleges, schools, parks, estates, allotments and other larger grounds that regularly generate organic material.

If you need a permanent solution for managing soil, spoil or green waste on site, we can assess the available area and construct an Eco-Bay system around your requirements.

Sports Goal Posts & Safety Netting

We supply and install sports goal posts, rugby posts and safety netting systems for schools, sports clubs, playing fields and other sports facilities.

Whether you're creating a completely new pitch or replacing old and tired equipment, our team can manage the process from removing the existing posts and foundations through to setting out and installing the new equipment.

Our services can include:

  • Football goal supply and installation
  • Rugby post supply and installation
  • Replacement of existing goal posts
  • Removal and disposal of old posts and foundations
  • Excavation and preparation of new foundations
  • Goal sockets and ground fixings
  • Sports safety and ball-stop netting
  • Replacement netting and posts
  • New pitch setting out
  • Repositioning goals and pitches
  • Ground reinstatement following installation

Accurate Pitch & Goal Setting Out

Correct positioning is particularly important when installing new equipment or creating a completely new sports pitch.

Using our GPS/GNSS sports line-marking technology, we can accurately measure and set out the pitch before positioning the new goals. This helps ensure the goals, touchlines and other pitch markings are straight, square and correctly aligned with one another.

Once the installation is complete, we can also carry out the initial pitch marking so the whole facility is correctly set out and ready for use.

Replacing Existing Sports Equipment

Old goal posts and sockets can sometimes require considerably more work than simply pulling them out of the ground.

Where required, we can excavate and remove old posts, sockets and foundations, prepare the ground for the replacement equipment and reinstate the surrounding surface once the installation is complete.

Safety & Ball-Stop Netting

We can also supply and install sports safety netting and ball-stop systems to help contain balls within playing areas and protect neighbouring areas, buildings and other facilities.

Systems can be selected and positioned to suit the individual site, whether behind individual goals or as part of a larger sports facility.

Whether you're replacing a single set of goals or developing a complete new pitch with posts, safety netting and line marking, we'll be happy to visit the site and discuss what's required.

Long Jump & Triple Jump Pit Installation

We design, construct and renovate long jump and triple jump facilities for schools, colleges, sports grounds and athletics facilities.

From replacing a tired existing pit to creating a completely new jump facility, we can manage the groundworks, runway, edging, take-off areas and sand pit to provide a professional finished facility ready for use.

Our services can include:

  • New long jump pit construction
  • Triple jump facilities
  • Existing jump pit renovation
  • Excavation and ground preparation
  • Runway construction
  • Redgra runways
  • Wet-pour / soft-pour safety surfacing
  • Take-off board installation
  • Concrete edging and pit construction
  • Supply of kiln-dried play sand
  • Drainage and ground preparation where required
  • Reinstatement of surrounding areas
  • Line and runway marking

Runway Options

Depending on the site, intended use and available budget, we can construct jump runways using different surface systems.

Redgra provides a practical traditional surface suitable for many school and recreational athletics facilities, while wet-pour safety surfacing can provide a more substantial, durable and professionally finished runway.

We can assess the existing ground and recommend a suitable construction and surface for the facility.

New Installations & Complete Renovations

Existing jump facilities can become worn, uneven, contaminated or simply no longer suitable for regular use.

We can remove existing components where required and reconstruct the facility, including the sub-base, edging, runway surface, take-off areas and sand pit.

For completely new installations, we can also help with the positioning and setting out of the facility before construction begins.

Sand Pit Replenishment & Maintenance

We use suitable kiln-dried play sand within our jump pits to provide a clean and consistent landing area.

Existing facilities can also be maintained as part of our regular school and sports grounds programmes, including:

  • Sand replenishment
  • Levelling and raking
  • Weed and vegetation control around the facility
  • Edging maintenance
  • Runway maintenance
  • Remarking where required

Whether you need an existing jump pit brought back into use or a completely new long jump or triple jump facility constructed from the ground up, we'll be happy to visit the site and discuss the options.

Artificial Cricket Wicket Installation & Refurbishment

We supply, install and refurbish artificial cricket wickets for schools, colleges and playing fields, providing a durable and practical cricket surface within an existing grass field.

These single-strip wickets are particularly suited to school playing fields and multi-use sports grounds, providing a dedicated cricket surface without the specialist maintenance requirements of a traditional natural cricket square.

Our services can include:

  • New artificial cricket wicket installation
  • Single-strip school cricket wickets
  • Replacement of worn artificial surfaces
  • Complete wicket refurbishment
  • Removal of existing surfaces and materials
  • Excavation and ground preparation
  • Sub-base construction and levelling
  • Installation of specialist cricket surfacing
  • Edging and surrounding ground reinstatement
  • Grass seeding or turfing around completed works
  • Cricket crease and wicket marking

New Artificial Cricket Wickets

For schools looking to introduce cricket to an existing playing field, we can construct a new artificial wicket from the ground up.

The area is excavated and properly prepared before the appropriate sub-base and specialist cricket surface are installed, creating a level, consistent and durable playing strip suitable for regular school use.

Careful installation is particularly important where the wicket sits within an existing grass playing field, ensuring the finished surface ties neatly into the surrounding ground.

Cricket Wicket Refurbishment

Artificial cricket wickets naturally become worn, damaged or uneven over time, but this doesn't always mean the complete facility needs replacing.

We can assess existing wickets and carry out refurbishment where appropriate, from replacing the artificial playing surface through to more substantial work on the base, levels and surrounding ground.

Part of the Wider Playing Field

Because we also specialise in sports turf and grounds maintenance, we can look beyond the wicket itself.

Following installation or refurbishment, we can reinstate surrounding grass, improve levels and carry out sports line marking, helping the new wicket sit neatly within the wider school playing field.

Whether you're looking to install a new artificial cricket wicket or bring an existing school wicket back into use, we'll be happy to visit the site and recommend the most appropriate approach.
