Sports Surface Renovations
Services to revitalise and maintain your grounds to the best possible condtions.
An intial proposal based on our teams expertise and your grounds requirements will help all to gain insight of the ideal specifications to maintain the site. We can tailor a programme to gain the ideal outcome for the upcoming season.
Football, rugby and cricket pitches are a handful of grounds we currently maintain.
If your sports field is holding water, becoming hard underfoot, showing poor grass growth or taking longer to recover from use, soil compaction could be part of the problem.
Our main method of relieving compaction is our Terra Spike, carrying out deep aeration commonly referred to as Verti-Draining. The machine works below the surface to open up compacted soil, allowing air, water and nutrients to move more freely through the root zone.
Regular aeration can help to:
- Improve drainage and reduce waterlogging
- Relieve compacted ground
- Encourage stronger, deeper rooting
- Improve turf health and recovery
- Create a better, more resilient playing surface
We can adjust the depth and intensity of the operation to suit the condition of the ground and what we're trying to achieve.
Specialist Deep Decompaction
For particularly severe or localised compaction, we also have our OxyShot system. This uses compressed air below the surface to fracture compacted soil with minimal surface disturbance.
It's particularly useful where conventional aeration isn't enough and can be used for specialist situations such as relieving heavily compacted ground following concerts and large events.
Over time, sports pitches can develop a build-up of dead grass, thatch and unwanted surface material. This can leave the turf feeling spongy, restrict healthy new growth and prevent water and nutrients from getting where they're needed.
Using our Amazone SmartCut scarifier with GPS-guided tractor, we can scarify pitches accurately and consistently, removing unwanted material and opening up the turf to create better conditions for healthy grass growth.
Scarifying your pitch can help to:
- Remove thatch and dead grass
- Reduce moss and unwanted surface growth
- Allow water and nutrients to reach the soil more effectively
- Encourage healthier, denser grass growth
- Improve the overall quality of the playing surface
- Prepare the pitch for overseeding and renovation
When Should a Pitch Be Scarified?
Scarification is particularly effective as part of a spring or autumn renovation, when conditions allow the grass to recover and establish.
We can adjust how aggressively we scarify depending on the condition of the pitch, from routine maintenance through to more intensive renovation work.
Scarification also works particularly well alongside aeration, overseeding and topdressing as part of a complete pitch renovation.
Sports pitches and other fine turf surfaces naturally become thin and worn through regular use. Overseeding introduces fresh grass seed into the existing surface, helping worn areas recover and improving the overall density and resilience of the turf.
We use a specialist Vredo double-disc overseeder, which places seed accurately into the soil rather than simply broadcasting it across the surface. Its closely spaced double-disc system provides excellent seed-to-soil contact and an even distribution across the treated area.
This makes it particularly suited to sports pitches, playing fields and golf course fairways, where consistent establishment and a high-quality finish are important.
Overseeding can help to:
- Thicken thin and worn areas
- Repair damage from regular play
- Produce a stronger, more resilient playing surface
- Improve turf density and appearance
- Introduce new, high-quality grass varieties
Part of a Pitch Renovation
For the best results, overseeding is often combined with scarification and aeration, helping create the right conditions for new seed to establish.
We can overseed as part of a complete renovation or as a standalone treatment, using professional seed mixtures selected to suit the surface and its intended use.
Looking for Vredo or double-disc overseeding, or simply not sure what your surface needs? Get in touch and we'll be happy to recommend the right approach.
Healthy sports turf needs the right nutrients to grow strongly, recover from play and cope with changing conditions throughout the year.
We apply professional sports turf fertilisers chosen to suit the condition of the pitch and the time of year. Rather than simply applying fertiliser to make the grass greener, the aim is to provide the turf with what it needs, when it needs it.
A well-planned fertiliser programme can help to:
- Encourage strong, healthy grass growth
- Improve turf density and appearance
- Help worn areas recover more quickly
- Develop a stronger root system
- Improve the resilience of the pitch to regular use
- Support newly seeded areas during establishment
The Right Treatment at the Right Time
The nutritional requirements of a pitch change throughout the growing season. We can tailor applications to the condition and use of the surface, whether that's supporting spring growth, helping a renovated pitch establish or maintaining turf health throughout the season.
Fertilising can be carried out as a standalone treatment or incorporated into a wider sports pitch maintenance or renovation programme.
Not every sports pitch treatment needs to come from a bag. Liquid applications allow us to target weeds, support healthy grass growth and apply specialist turf treatments accurately across the playing surface.
Depending on what the pitch needs, our spraying services can include:
- Selective weed control to target unwanted broad-leaved weeds without damaging the grass
- Organic seaweed fertiliser to support healthy turf growth and recovery
- Liquid feeds and other specialist turf treatments
- Targeted applications as part of a wider pitch maintenance programme
Accurate GPS Application
We use a GPS-guided tractor-mounted sprayer, allowing products to be applied accurately and evenly across the pitch while reducing unnecessary overlap.
This means the right amount of product goes where it's needed, giving a consistent application while reducing waste.
Treatments can be carried out individually or combined with fertilising, aeration, overseeding and other seasonal maintenance as part of a complete pitch care programme.
Over time, regular play, machinery and general wear can leave a sports pitch uneven, worn or with poor surface levels. Top dressing applies a carefully selected material across the pitch to help improve the surface and support healthy grass growth.
Depending on the condition of the pitch, top dressing can help to:
- Smooth minor dips and surface imperfections
- Improve surface levels and consistency
- Support drainage and soil structure
- Encourage healthier, denser turf
- Provide good growing conditions for new seed
- Help a renovated pitch recover and establish
Drainage Channel Reinstatement
Following particularly dry conditions or as drainage systems settle over time, drainage channels can sometimes sink and become visible across the playing surface.
We can top up these sunken drainage lines with suitable material, level them back into the surrounding surface and overseed the repaired areas, helping restore a smoother and more consistent pitch.
An Important Part of Pitch Renovation
Top dressing works particularly well alongside scarification, aeration and overseeding as part of a wider pitch renovation.
We select the appropriate top dressing material and application rate to suit the existing surface and what we're trying to achieve.
Top dressing can be carried out as part of a full pitch renovation, drainage channel repair or as a standalone treatment.
